Living at Lyndon

With multiple housing options, living on campus is the easiest way to make connections and focus on your academic life.

Welcome home.

The NVU-Lyndon Residential Life team understands that your on-campus room or suite is your home away from home. Our mission is to provide an inclusive living environment and supportive community where everyone can feel safe and welcome. We do this by providing learning opportunities, fostering community, and offering support throughout the year with the goal of developing meaningful connections amongst students and between students and staff.

Our live-in staff includes undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs), Residence Hall Directors (RHDs) or Head Residents (HRs) in each building. This live-in professional staff members supervise their residence hall communities and the RAs.

Our residence halls play a central role in building community and the college experience for NVU-Lyndon students. Research shows that college students who live on campus experience higher rates of retention, satisfaction, and academic success. Sharing a common residential experience helps students connect with peers, find support from faculty/staff, and foster academic and social development.

Students on campus are welcome to visit or contact the Office of Residential Life in the Rita L. Bole Complex with questions or concerns. Parents are welcome to call with any questions as they arise.

We honor specific housing requests to the best of our ability, keeping in mind the finite supply of rooms and the high demand for certain living areas. New students are assigned to housing based on a first-apply, first-assigned principle except in the case of documented special needs. Any documentation must be submitted to Academic Support Services before it can be considered in support of a housing request.

Housing Assignments

Housing assignments and roommate information will be made available via our housing management system, ERezLife (https://northernvermont.erezlife.com/) . Please be aware that assignments are sometimes temporary as we work on them throughout the spring and early summer. Residential Life will send an email to all residential students once housing assignments are finalized.

The mailing address for NVU’s Lyndon campus is 1001 College Road, Lyndonville, VT 05851. All students are automatically assigned a mailbox and will receive their key and box number at check-in upon arrival to campus.

Can I change my room assignment?

We use student-provided information to best match students with their rooming assignment. Room changes are not allowed for the first 14 days of each semester. This is to allow the Residential Life Office time to confirm who has moved in and who has not and to ensure the security of the residents. However, if at any time in the year a resident believes a room change is necessary, they should talk with their Residence Hall Director.

I already know who I want my roommate to be. How do I sign up to room with him/her?

On your housing application, you may request a specific roommate. Roommate requests will be honored when possible if both individuals have mutually requested each other. Mutual roommate requests must be made by June 15 in order to be considered.

Can I withdraw from my housing contract?

The housing and meal plan contract is a nine-month agreement. Students may break the housing contract only in the following instances: withdrawal from the university, completion of a degree program, marriage, care of a dependent minor, leave of absence, overseas study, or if academic course load is reduced to part-time status (below 9 credits).

I have a maintenance problem in my room. What do I do?

Routine maintenance problems should be reported to your Resident Assistant or Residence Hall Director. In cases of emergency, students should contact NVU Public Safety at 802.626.6452.

What furnishings will be provided in my room?

Each room has a XL twin bed, mattress, desk, chair, wardrobe and dresser per resident. Drapes are not provided in rooms.

How often are rooms cleaned?

Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms. Housekeeping staff are responsible for cleaning the public areas (hallways, lounges, etc.), public restrooms, and bathrooms in suites. In the Rita Bole Complex, the cleaning of the suite areas is the responsibility of the students living in the suite.

Are vacuum cleaners provided?

Vacuum cleaners are available for check-out in all residence hall offices.

Is there any storage space in the residence halls?

There is no storage space in the residence halls outside of your room, so please limit what you bring.

Is there a place to store my bike?

Limited bike storage is available inside the Wheelock Residence Hall. Outside bike racks are the most common place to store a bicycle. You are also welcome to keep your bike in your room if your roommate agrees to it. Those who bring a bicycle are encouraged to use a bike lock.

Can we bring extra furniture? Will it fit?

We suggest that you do not bring extra furniture. The rooms are designed to hold the furniture in them. None of the furniture provided by NVU may be removed. If at some point you decide that there is extra room you are welcomed to bring extra furniture in. It will be the student’s responsibility to remove it at the end of their time in the room. Most students living on campus will have one or two roommates. When deciding what to bring, be sure to contact your roommate(s) first so you will not double some items.

Applications

We are still accepting Winter 2021 applications!

Residence spaces remain available. Students can apply online through the eRezlife portal to register for the semester or contact residence@nipissingu.ca for information about shorter term stays related to variable academic commitments.

2021/22 Residence Application is now open!

Residence is now accepting applications for the 2021/22 school year.  Students can apply online through the eRezlife portal.

HOW DO I APPLY?

First Time Users:

To fill out the 2021-22  online application, please visit https://nipissing.erezlife.com.

The first time you visit eRezLife, you will have to click on Activate Account. The system will automatically send you an email with a password reset link in it. This will be sent to the email address you included on your OUAC application. If you don't see the email in your inbox right away, please check your Junk/Spam folder for an email from noreply@nipissingu.ca. You will have to click on the link in the email to create your password for eRezLife.  Once you create your password, you will be redirected right into the application service.  After you complete all the fields with a red asterisk, you will see a green "Apply Now" button on your home screen to select your preferred building and fill out the rest of the application.

Returning Students:

Go to nipissing.erezlife.com and log in using your Nipissing University student email address and the password you created when you first applied for Residence.  Forgot your password?  Click the link below the sign in button that says "Forgot password?"

FYI: There is a new residence deposit option for Returning students this year! Please see below.

How to pay the $400.00 deposit:

The easiest way to make the $400.00 Residence deposit payment is to pay it using online banking. To do this you would log into your personal online banking account and click on Bill Payments, next enter Nipissing University as a new payee. The account number you are to reference is the last 7 digits of your Nipissing Student ID number (do not enter the letter). (Please note that online payments can not be made with credit card).  Once you make your payment it will take approximately 48 hours to post to your student account.

Other payment options include paying directly in the Finance Office in F216, or by mailing in a cheque or money order, making either out to Nipissing University and referencing your Nipissing Student ID number on the cheque or money order.

The $400.00 residence deposit includes a non-refundable $25.00 application fee.  Please Note: A portion of your Residence deposit in the amount of $100.00 is refundable if you cancel your application in writing.

NOTE: When students are assigned a room placement in Residence, they are responsible for the FULL PAYMENT of their Residence fees for the academic year. The installment payment plan, which consists of two payments in addition to the deposit fee, is an option for students, instead of paying their full fees upfront.

High School Applicants for 2021-22

All high school applicants who are admitted full-time to first year studies at Nipissing University, and who meet the eligibility requirements are guaranteed a spot in Residence if they submit their Residence application and pay the $400.00 Residence deposit by June 1, 2021. Applications are also still available for the Winter 2021 Semester.

If you have not provided us with a valid email address and would like to apply for Residence, please contact the Residence Office by email to residence@nipissingu.ca

Returning Students for 2021-22 (new payment option)

RETURNING STUDENTS ONLY: To be assigned a room, a minimum of $125.00 must be paid by the March 22nd, 2021 deadline.  The remaining $275.00 must be paid by June 1, 2021 to hold the room.  If the full $400.00 is not paid by June 1, 2021, the room placement will be cancelled. Returning students who complete their application and $400.00 deposit AFTER June 1, 2020, will be assigned an available room on a first come first served basis.

Returning students who wish to apply to live in Residence for the Winter semester will be required to pay a full $400 deposit.

Please Note:  The Nipissing University Finance department Policy states that, "Payments from students with outstanding balances from current or previous terms that may be intended as future Residence or tuition deposits will first be applied against the existing outstanding balance, and not treated as a deposit payment."

Bachelor of Education Students

There is no set deadline for the Residence application but we do have a limited number of spaces available for Bachelor of Education students and they are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. It is strongly recommended that you complete your application and pay the $400.00 deposit no later than June 1, 2021.  Winter Only placements are also available, email residence@nipissingu.ca for more information.

Important Note to All Applicants

All students must complete the application and indicate their Residence preference. Included in the online Residence application, is a questionnaire that asks specific questions about your lifestyle, sleep, and study habits. Please answer these questions completely and honestly, as the information you provide will be used to match you with suitable roommates. Although Nipissing staff try to accommodate students' first choice, it may be necessary to place some students in their second or third choice of residence.

Residences accommodations are only available to students enrolled in an Undergraduate program at Nipissing or our Schulich School of Education 2-year Bachelor of Education program.  We do not offer accommodations to students in Graduate Level Programs, nor do we offer Family Housing.

North Central students having a discussion.

A place you’ll call home.

Living on campus is an important part of your time at North Central University, and it’ll be an experience you’ll never forget.

Most of our students live in one of our four living areas, all located within blocks of North Central in downtown Minneapolis. Living with and around other North Central students will help you build a strong community that offers personal, spiritual, and academic support. Plus, our unique urban setting will give you a chance to experience the vibrancy and opportunities of big-city living.

What’s the best part about living at North Central? You get to live with all of your best friends!

Spiritual Growth

At North Central, we place a special emphasis on growing as passionate, spirit-empowered Christ-followers. To help you in the process of finding your calling and fortifying your faith, each floor has weekly discipleship meetings called LifeCore.

LifeCore is a weekly event put on by the Discipleship Leaders (DLs) of each Residence Hall floor. These Discipleship Leaders are student volunteers who live on the floor and help build community as well as help students grow together spiritually. LifeCore is designed to be spiritually focused, but this can happen in many creative and meaningful ways. In the past, floors have incorporated Bible studies, worship nights, art, reflection, testimonies, and many other different ideas to encourage growth in one another. Both returning and new students engage in LifeCore, and it’s one of the main platforms by which floors grow together and seek Christ in a way that impacts all of their lives.

We also agree to live according to certain biblical principles. By living this way, we’re able to honor each other, support each other in our walks with Christ, and glorify God in everything we do. Learn more about the responsibilities of student conduct at North Central.

Living Areas

Each living area has a full-time Resident Director (RD). Resident Directors offer mentorship, prayer, and support, in addition to supervision. Each residence hall floor and apartment area has a Resident Advisor (RA). These are upper class students who will help you get connected to North Central, build community, and continue to grow.

Wondering what you should bring with you when you move to North Central? Here’s a Checklist .
