San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo against the Arizona Cardinals during an NFL football game in Santa Clara, Calif., Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021. (AP Photo/Jed Jacobsohn)

Welcome to the live blog for today’s matchup between the San Francisco 49ers (4-5) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2-7) from TIAA Bank Stadium in Jacksonville. Follow along for updates and analysis throughout the game.

12:55 49ers win 30-10. Will be back soon with the game story.

12:42 Aaron Banks makes his regular season debut with about three minutes left to play. The rookie right guard was drafted in the second round of the draft. Oh yeah, Trey Lance is in also.

12:32 Trent Sherfield recovers a Tavon Austin muffed punt, to set the 49er offense up in Jaguars territory. Garoppolo finds George Kittle for a gain of 11 yards and Robbie Gould hits the 45-yard field goal attempt. 49ers 30 Jaguars 3

12:07 This is where not having Elijah Mitchell makes things tough on Kyle Shanahan. You don’t want to burn out Jeff Wilson Jr or Deebo Samuel, but Trey Sermon doesn’t run well laterally. My suggestion is to put Lance in the game with Trey Sermon and run the heck out of the zone read to close this out.

11:57 Arden Key with the sack, his 3rd of the season, ends the Jaguars offensive possession. Kyle Shanahan should think about getting Trey Lance some action soon.

11:50 Jimmy Garoppolo to George Kittle caps off a 77-yard touchdown drive. The highlight of that possession was watching left tackle Trent Williams get a target in the end zone. 49ers 27 Jaguars 3

11:36 Quick three and out for the 49ers defense. Nice play by Josh Norman to force an incompletion on first down, followed by good recognition of a screen which led to an incompletion and then Lawrence throws incomplete while being pressured by Nick Bosa and Arden Key.

11:25 Jimmy Garoppolo finishes the first half 10-14, 128 yards and 1 touchdown. To of his incompletions were on passes he just threw it away.

Brandon Aiyuk leads 49ers receivers with 6 receptions for 78 yards on 6 targets and Deebo Samuel leads the 49ers rushing attack with 47 yards and a touchdown on 5 carries. Samuel does not have a target in the game.

11:20 49ers offense does a good job of moving into field goal range and working the clock to set up a 47-yard field goal by Robbie Gould. Key plays on the possession were two 9-yard completions to Brandon Aiyuk and then Garoppolo hit a wide open Trey Sermon for a gain of 23. 49ers 20 Jaguars 3

11:11 Jacksonville finally gets their offense going, moving the ball 67-yards on 12 plays before settling for a field goal. 49ers 17 Jaguars 3

Jaguars get the ball to start the second half, so this upcoming possession for San Francisco is important.

10:53 Garoppolo finds Brandon Aiyuk over the middle for the touchdown. 49ers 17 Jaguars 0

Nearly halfway through the first half and the 49ers have run 33 plays to only 4 for Jacksonville.

10:46 The fumble was forced by Josh Norman, something he’s done a very good job of this season, and recovered by Fred Warner.

10:41 On the Jaguars first offensive play Laviska Shenault Jr takes a screen from Trevor Lawrence for the biggest play of the day so far for Jacksonville only to fumble when he is hit. San Francisco recovers. This could be a blowout pretty quick.

10:39 Deebo Samuel caps a 7 play, 80-yard drive with a 25 yard touchdown run around the left side. Moving Samuel into more of a running back role may be what saves the 49ers season.

10:30 Jimmy Garoppolo finds Brandon Aiyuk across the middle off play action for a gain of 35 as the first quarter comes to a close.

10:26 San Francisco defense forces a quick 3 and out. On 3rd and 5 San Francisco went with man coverage across the field and Lawrence threw incomplete deep to John Brown who was covered by K’Waun Williams. Nice aggressive start by DeMeco Ryans.

10:21 49ers offense opens the game with a 20 play, 89 yard drive but settle for a FG. Jimmy Garoppolo missed Jeff Wilson Jr with a bad throw and then on 4th and 1 from the 2, Kyle Shanahan decides to settle for a field goal. That’s a win for Jacksonville. 49ers 3 Jaguars 0

10:10 Trent Williams stepped down, leaving Josh Allen unblocked for a sack. 49ers catch a big break with a holding call on the Jaguars secondary.

10:03 Kickoff returns are always an adventure with Trenton Cannon.

9:30 Expect Jaquiski Tartt to be back in the starting lineup at strong safety today with Talanoa Hufanga coming in as the third safety when Jimmie Ward is moved into the slot.

9:19 Elijah Mitchell is OUT for the 49ers today. Other inactives include JaMycal Hasty, Maurice Hurst, and Colton McKivitz.

With Mitchell out, the 49ers running backs available for today include: Jeff Wilson Jr, Trey Sermon, Trenton Cannon, and Kyle Juszczyk. Will Kyle Shanahan give Deebo Samuel 5 carries again today as well?

Inactive for Jacksonville today: RB Devine Ozigbo, CB Tre Herndon, LB Dakota Allen, TE Jacob Hollister, DE/OLB Jordan Smith

Where does TIAA Bank Field stand in Touchdown Wire's stadium rankings?

Jacksonville has a reputation around the league for not being able to consistently fill its stadium, but it’s hard to argue the quality of the stadium is a reason for that. TIAA Bank Field was a state-of-the-art football complex when it opened in 1995, and though it’s pushing 30 years old, it underwent two major renovations in the last seven years.

But in 2021, only six NFL stadiums are older than the one the city of Jacksonville built for its expansion team, and two of them (Chicago’s Soldier Field and Green Bay’s Lambeau Field) are historic venues that have undergone significant renovation.

In his ranking of the stadiums around the league, Touchdown Wire’s Mark Lane places TIAA Bank at just 26th in the league, three spots above Nissan Stadium, the home of the division rival Tennessee Titans.

The home of the Jaguars is a little more cramped, which was still a design of the stadiums from the 1990s. Jacksonville fans do have a swimming pool and the weather in December and January isn’t wretched like it is up north. Florida man can enjoy a late-season NFL game.

The swimming pools were added as part of the 2014 renovation, alongside massive, record-setting video scoreboards. Still, it’s hard for the Jags’ aging venue to compete with some of the palaces being built today.

TIAA Bank Field cost $211 million to build, adjusting for inflation, while Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, New York’s MetLife Stadium, Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, and Minnesota’s US Bank Stadium, all of which have opened since 2010, had price tags north of $1 billion. SoFi Stadium, which opened in Los Angeles in 2020, cost a whopping $5.5 billion to build.

The team has hinted that another major renovation could be in the works in the not-so-distant future, with it being rumored that the team is looking to the renovations Miami did to Hard Rock Stadium as a blueprint, such as adding the open-air canopy to provide all seats with shade.

If these changes come to fruition, Jacksonville’s spot on these rankings will almost certainly rise. But for now, all the work that has been put into the stadium still just isn’t quite enough to compare with the newer, elite venues in the league.

TIAA Bank Field

Home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, TIAA Bank Field is adjacent to the St. Johns River in the heart of downtown Jacksonville. Since their inaugural season in 1995, the Jaguars have played every home game at TIAA Bank Field.

In its life span, the stadium has been in an almost-perpetual state of evolution through innovation, brought by the vision and leadership of the team’s owner, Shahid Khan. From January 2012 until the spring of 2017, Khan and the City of Jacksonville will together have spent more than $170 million improving TIAA Bank Field and constructing Daily’s Place, a new, one-of-a-kind amphitheater and covered flex field. The venue now boasts some of the most unique stadium assets in the country.

The stadium regularly seats more than 64,000 for Jaguars home games but is expanded to more than 80,000 for annual events like the NCAA Florida vs. Georgia rivalry game and the TaxSlayer Bowl. TIAA Bank Field is home to the world’s largest video boards, which made their debut in 2014. At 362 feet wide and 60 feet high, the two massive end zone displays are wider than the length of a football field and have set the standard for an in-venue visual experience. Another one-of-a-kind stadium asset is the Smart Pharmacy Spas located on FanDuelVille in the north end zone. In the Florida sunshine, there’s no better place for fans to cool off and cheer on the Jags!

In 2016, the Jaguars and City of Jacksonville unveiled the completely reimagined US Assure Club and south end zone. New designs brought to light and modernity into the luxury clubs, emphasizing a field focus with walkout patios at the 50-yard-line, an NFL first, and a wall of windows between the club’s interior and seating bowl. The new south end zone super tunnel brought added drama to The Prowl and gave fans an up-close and personal view of the on-field action inside The Cooler.

The Jaguars’ home stadium has undergone significant changes and upgrades in its 22-year history. But as many new buildings and designs have come on-line in the NFL, Jacksonville is still able to boast one of the most fan-friendly and technologically advanced stadiums in the league.
