Who We Are
Welcome to the judgment-free zone.
As the largest nonprofit provider of basic human needs in Sacramento County, we take our mission one-step further by offering educational opportunities and family support services that allow people who seek support to shape their best tomorrow. We are a place for hope and prosperity, a place where women and men, children and elders, are offered the tools they may need—food, clothes, education, technology, or just plain kindness—as they move toward a path of financial independence and self-sufficiency.
Our work by the numbers
In 2017-18, SFBFS' Partner Agencies had 1,087,719 visits and distributed over 19.5 million pounds of fresh groceries to the community. Our quality groceries come from a variety of sources including donations from local grocery stores, regional farms and the community. But that’s not all we do.

What it means to be all-in
Read the stories of the incredible people who inspire our work. From our CalFresh Program manager Lorena to 80-year-old volunteer Pat, these are the people who motivate us to create change in Sacramento County.
She was a newlywed in a new country. And Lorena will tell you, it was really hard.
His smile is as big as anyone else’s you will meet (except for those of his kids).
Pat says she can’t stop volunteering because there are still hungry kids out there.

Give Now to help us Continue Our Efforts
Economic Roundtable report “Locked Out” concludes that the pandemic-related unemployment will start a brutal cycle of homelessness. The uptick began as a trickle in 2020, but homelessness will triple this year and peak by 2023.
The Restore LA initiative launched with the expansion project of the transitional housing program for families, making an additional 42 rooms available for family units to stay together and rebuild their lives. This is the first of many efforts to work towards a more foreseeable and steady future for Los Angeles.
All residents of this program will have free access to our many resources here at the Dream Center: food, clothing, GED classes, volunteering opportunities, and a community of support. There are no pre-qualifications and all families are welcome to apply. We will do our best to accommodate as many families as we can, in the case we reach maximum capacity, applicants will be subject to a waiting list and will be notified as soon as there is an availability.
