Zelle () is a United States–based digital payments network owned by Early Warning Services, LLC, a private financial services company owned by the banks Bank of America, BB&T, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo.[1][2][3] The Zelle service enables individuals to electronically transfer money from their bank account to another registered user's bank account (within the United States) using a mobile device or the website of a participating banking institution.[1][3]

The Zelle instant payment service was launched in June 2017.[1] Previously, the Zelle service was known as clearXchange, which offered payment services through member financial institutions and a website. Launched in April 2011, clearXchange was originally owned by Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo. After Capital One and US Bank joined as additional partners, clearXchange was sold to Early Warning Services in January 2016.[4] In December 2017, all clearXchange accounts for person-to-person payment services were rebranded as "Zelle", and clearXchange users began being required to recreate their profiles in Zelle to continue using the service.

  • In April 2011, the clearXchange service was launched. It was originally owned and operated by Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo.[5][6] The service offered person-to-person (P2P), business-to-consumer (B2C), and government-to-consumer (G2C) payments.[7]
  • For person-to-person payments, clearXchange enabled users to send money to other registered users having accounts at participating banks in the United States. Users accessed the network within the websites and apps of member financial institutions,[5] and through clearXchange's website. The network connected with existing bank accounts, so consumers would not need to fund a separate account to use the service.[6] This feature and the lack of fees for using the service were highlighted as advantages for competition with other person-to-person payment services such as PayPal, Popmoney, and Square.[5][6] The system associated each user bank account with an email address and mobile phone number, so only the recipient's email address or mobile number was needed to send money directly from a bank account to the bank account of another person who had signed up for the service.[8][9][10]
  • Over time, the number of financial institutions that were affiliated with clearXchange grew to include various other banks and credit unions. Capital One and US Bank were added as additional owner-members.[9][10]
  • In June 2015, clearXchange announced the availability of a real-time payment system.[11][12] However, some transactions could take as much as five days or longer to be completed.[13]
  • In January 2016, clearXchange was sold to Early Warning Services.[14] Early Warning Services is owned by Bank of America, BB&T, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, US Bank, and Wells Fargo.[2]
  • In September 2017, Early Warning Services released the Zelle payment system and mobile app[15] and announced that all clearXchange "person-to-person" payment service accounts would be deactivated in December 2017. After that, clearXchange stopped supporting person-to-person payments but has continued to provide payments from companies and government entities to certain customers. The company encouraged the former users of clearXchange to sign up for the new Zelle service.[16] As in the former clearXchange service, payees are identified in the Zelle service by an association between the recipient's bank account and an email address or mobile phone number.[16] Money sent to a registered payee who has an account at a financial institution that is a member of the Zelle network is typically available to the recipient "within minutes".[17]
  • In March 2019, Early Warning Services's CEO, Paul Finch, stepped down to work with the Finch family Foundation, a Phoenix, Arizona, nonprofit organization that serves needy families and children. Finch cited his long tenure, the completion of the launch of the Zelle network, and the company's plans to start new projects as reasons for the timing of his departure.[18]
  • In May 2019, Early Warning Services appointed their new CEO, Albert Ko. Before his appointment, Mr. Ko was the chief transformation officer for Intuit. While an officer of Intuit, Albert Ko was the general manager for Mint, as well as an overseer of QuickBooks.[19]

The Zelle service[edit]

The Zelle service is intended for payments to those whom the payer already knows and trusts adequately, and the service disclaims any responsibility for goods and services sold through the system.[20][21]

Zelle users can send money to other registered Zelle users. (They can also attempt to send money to unregistered recipients, in which case the intended recipient will receive an invitation to sign up for the service in order to complete the transaction.) Users access the network within the websites and apps of Zelle-participating U.S. financial institutions[5] and through the Zelle mobile app. To register with the Zelle mobile app, users must enroll a supported MasterCard or Visa-branded debit card issued in connection with a U.S. bank account.[22]

The network connects with existing bank accounts, so consumers do not need to fund a separate account to use the service.[6] Only the recipient's email address or mobile number is needed for a user to send money directly from their bank account to the recipient's bank account.[8]

An email address or mobile phone number may only be actively enrolled in Zelle to receive payments at one financial institution. To register at multiple banks, users need to provide different email addresses or mobile phone numbers for each.[23]

A Zelle user can transfer money to a recipient or submit a request for others to send a payment, or to split the cost of a payment.[24][25]

There are limits on the dollar amount and frequency of transactions allowed on Zelle that are imposed by the banking institution associated with the account being used.[20] For example, transfers from most Wells Fargo funding accounts are limited to $2,500 per day and $20,000 in a 30-day period, and lower limits may apply for new payees or when using the Zelle mobile app rather than the bank's self-operated services.[20][26] Transfers from a Chase checking account are limited to $2,000 per day and $16,000 per calendar month.[20][27]

Payments made using Zelle cannot be canceled (unless an attempt was made to send a payment to someone who has not enrolled in the service).[28]

The website for Zelle that was launched in June 2017 says that "Transactions between enrolled Zelle users typically occur in minutes. If your recipient is not yet enrolled with Zelle, it may take between 1 and 3 business days after they enroll."[15]

Competition with PayPal's Venmo service[edit]

The Zelle service's principal competitor is PayPal and its Venmo payment service.[1][29] Venmo is more popular, based on public awareness, opinion polling, and active engagement with users, but Zelle processes a much larger dollar volume of money transfers—reportedly US$75 billion in its first year, 2017.[1][3][21][25]

The two services work very similarly from the user's perspective – e.g., both services use email addresses and mobile phone numbers to identify recipients, but Venmo lacks the direct integration with banking institutions that Zelle has, and Zelle money transfers are typically processed more quickly.[25]

Starting in January 2018, Venmo began to also offer a more rapid transfer option than its typical 1–3 day transfer service, but Venmo charges a fee for the service, while Zelle-affiliated banks currently do not.[30][31]

The Zelle network itself does not charge users a fee for money transfers.[32] Banks are allowed to charge a fee for Zelle transfers involving their accounts, but they have generally not chosen to do so.[20][30]

Venmo requires its users to set up an account in its system that is separate from an ordinary banking account and is not insured by FDIC or NCUA, which banking accounts are.[25] The Venmo account can be linked to a bank account so that necessary funds will be automatically withdrawn from there. However, funds can only be withdrawn from a Venmo account by first transferring them to a bank account and then withdrawing the money from the bank account (a process that adds an extra step and involves some additional delay and possibly a fee). In contrast, Zelle transfers money directly between bank accounts, so it requires no separate account or extra steps to obtain access to funds. Zelle is also accessible through banking institution websites and apps as well as through the separate Zelle mobile app.

It is not possible to cancel a payment to an existing Venmo account unless the recipient gives their explicit permission. Once you send a payment, the funds are available to the recipient right away. The only exception is if payment is sent to a phone number or email address that has not been registered with a Venmo account.[33] Like Venmo, Zelle payments to a registered user cannot be canceled.

Partners[edit]

The Zelle Network includes more than 100 participants, including the network partners MasterCard and Visa; the processor partners CO-OP Financial Services, FIS, Fiserv, and Jack Henry & Associates; and numerous financial institutions.[34] Zelle is currently in the process of establishing more banks and credit unions into their network. They have officially partnered with institutions such as Bank of Hawaii, Comerica Bank, Morgan Stanley, and M&T Bank.[35]

Criticism[edit]

The Zelle service has received negative publicity for fraud incidents in which bank customers' accounts were compromised through social engineering and Zelle then set up by the fraudsters and used to transfer funds out of the victims' accounts, leaving victims with little practical or legal recourse. In some cases, bank customers have been compensated by the banks involved, depending upon the bank and its policies and the specifics of the incident. Banks may use secondary confirmation methods such as SMS or otherwise place limits on newly created accounts and transfers to recently added recipients as a preventive measure.[1][36][37][3][21][38][39][26]

    How Do You Use Zelle?

    Zelle is an app developed by major American banks to compete with payment services like Venmo. The app gives you the opportunity to send money to and from bank accounts bank accounts easily. Customers who bank with Zelle partners will receive transfers directly to their accounts within minutes, unlike apps such as Venmo. However, users who don't bank with one of the app's partner institutions will find that Zelle comes with more requirements and slower processing.

    What is the Zelle App?

    Zelle is a free app supported by more than 30 banks to compete with other person-to-person payment services such as Apple Pay and Venmo. Zelle allows users to send money to recipients at any other bank. If your bank is already one of Zelle's partners, you can access it directly through your bank's app, with no need for additional accounts or more apps. If your bank isn't a Zelle partner, you'll need to download the standalone Zelle app—and you won't be able to transfer money unless the other party is banking with a Zelle partner.

    Unlike other forms of mobile payment, Zelle doesn’t hold money in a separate account managed within the app, which makes peer-to-peer payments safer than third-party apps such as Venmo. Transfers can take minutes if both parties have checking accounts with banks that support Zelle. If your bank isn't supported by Zelle, transfers can take 1-3 days. In any case, either the sender or receiver in every Zelle transaction must be at a bank that is currently a Zelle partner.

    Zelle itself doesn’t charge a fee, but if your bank doesn't support the app, then you should check to see if they charge separate fees. Zelle partners with over 30 banks. According to a Zelle press release, over 86 million customers use Zelle through mobile banking accounts, meaning that other places may adopt this platform to keep up with their competitors.

    How Do You Use Zelle?

    Using Zelle is easier for users whose banks are already Zelle partners. For the most part, these banks—such as Chase—have fully integrated Zelle into their own banking apps, making it unnecessary for you to download the Zelle app or to create another account. A few others, like PNC Bank, offer multiple apps that you can use to access Zelle's features.

    If your bank or credit union hasn't partnered with Zelle, you must download its standalone app in the Google Play or iTunes store. To enroll using this option, you’ll also need to submit your contact information, a U.S. mobile phone number, email address, and your U.S based Visa® or MasterCard® debit card.

    To make a transfer, you enter the recipient’s email address or phone number and the amount of money that you want to send. The recipient will receive an email or a text notifying them of the transfer. If the person you’re sending money to doesn’t have a Zelle account, they'll receive a simple guide to help them enroll. The payment will expire within 14 days if the recipient doesn’t set up their Zelle profile and the money will go back into your account. You can also use the app to send a request for money, provided that the person you’re sending the request to is a Zelle user.

    Zelle vs. Venmo and Other Payment Apps

    If your bank supports Zelle, and you're sending money to a person who also has a bank account supported by Zelle, then you can send and receive money within minutes. Some apps, such as Google Wallet and Venmo, let users allow users to send and receive money, but the money is held in an app-based bank account until users initiate a bank transfer. Other services—Popmoney and Square Cash—are similar to Zelle in that money goes directly to the user's bank account, but their transactions can take up to three days to complete.

    Zelle is free to use, while other payment apps may charge a percentage of the transaction amount. While Zelle does not impose transfer limits, your bank might, so it's best to check with your bank before sending large amounts of money. Zelle isn't a good option for users who don't use one of the banks that support it. If you decide to use the standalone app to send or receive payments, it can take up to three days for the funds to arrive. In this case, using Zelle isn't any different than using a third-party app. In fact, some competitors are rolling out features that allow users to receive funds instantly for a small fee. Venmo has just introduced this feature into its app, which allows users to pay a 25-cent fee to instantly transfer their balance to their bank account.

    Furthermore, Zelle doesn’t support credit card transactions. Other apps, which include Venmo and Square Cash, do accept credit card transactions, but they charge users up to 3% of the transaction amount. Finally, Zelle only works with U.S.-based banks, making international transactions impossible.

    So sad

    The PNC banking part is great a little slow yet saves me time from running back & forth to the bank on one hand now on another note, ever since they linked my Zelle account to my PNC my Zelle receiving and sending has been giving me major issues which results in me having to once again go back & forth to the bank with an edition to the Post Office got money orders, stamps, & envelopes so now I’m spending more in gas, as well as getting the money to it’s destination. I call for a representative one even told me call Zelle it’s not in their end that the message I received says failed to send so I call then Zelle ask me why they directed me to cAll them being they have control over the account since it’s linked to the PNC, nevertheless the funds I sent is taken out my PNC and won’t return until I believe it said 3 business days. Another PNC rep said delete the app then try to download it again hmmm ok nope that didn’t work neither. So bottom line I’m Very disappointed in their Zelle merge. I can’t even delete it and make a new account. Thanks for nothing on that merge. Otherwise the PNC itself I do like

    Took a step back with last update.

    I could give 5 stars for convenience and general reliability. But the last update, while making the app more snazzy, also made it less convenient. Cool new graphics and slick transitions were added. Looks cool guys. But takes longer to load each page. I don’t need to be entertained by my banking app - just need to make an online deposit or pay a bill. Here’s an example of inconvenient: making a mobile deposit. Lots of sliding around of graphics with every selection I make. I finally get the deposit made and then there’s the confirmation screen. The top 1/3 of the screen contains a blue bar with a giant “+” sign in it. Below that is the deposit information. Where’s the confirm button? Took me a while to figure out I have to scroll down to see it. Maybe a little smaller graphic on top would allow me to see the whole thing on one screen. And maybe instead of all the flashy graphics after every selection (deposit, account, amount...) all that could be on one screen and then the flashy stuff could come after, and just once. Bill pay is much the same. Looks cool but is a waste of time.

    Functionally, convenience-wise, reliability-wise — I love having the app and it serves me well. I could just do without all the fru-fru.

    Only bank with a good and consistent digital interface

    In general, I am very happy that there have been minimal changes to the website and digital interfaces in the 15 years I have been a NationalCity/PNC customer. The interface works well and I have rarely had to think hard about how to navigate menus to get the information I want. Recently, however, when I use this, I feel like I am back in the days of 56k modems where the images for advertisements would load after the rest of the webpage would load and you would accidentally click on something because all of the content would move and an advertisement image would appear right as you were about to click. I thought this practice was long gone from good user interface design, but evidently it is still here every time the COVID relief banner at the top of the app decides to load. Now, every 1 out of 2 times that I try to click on my checking account when I load the main page of the app, I accidentally open a webpage for COVID relief that I have to close. Very annoying. Please keep up the good work of having a consistent user interface design, but also please stop making it so content unexpectedly shifts around right as I am about to click when the main page loads.

PNC customers frustrated over restricted access to third party payment apps

For months, PNC Bank customers have complained online that they’re having trouble using third party payment apps like Venmo.

Jim Hargreaves owns a packaging design business in Mt. Lebanon, and said he cashnetusa phone number customer service ran into a problem last month. A customer he regularly works with received an error message when trying to pay an invoice through the app Harvest, which Hargreaves has used for months. Both Hargreaves and the customer use Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank.

A few days later, Hargreaves found his own PNC bank account was unable to connect to Venmo. When he contacted PNC customer service, he received a message saying that the difficulty may be due to “security enhancements.”

“If you are having this difficulty, you may want to explore alternative means of money movement, such as Zelle, or work directly with the third-party applications to explore other alternatives,” the message from customer service said, according to a screenshot Hargreaves provided to WESA.

Zelle is a money transfer app similar to Venmo that is owned in part by PNC Bank. In an emailed statement, a PNC spokesperson wrote that the bank is not trying to get customers to use Zelle in place of other services.

Hargreaves was frustrated by the sudden difficulty; he said he’d spent months getting accustomed to using Harvest chase bank mortgage clause address understanding its features.

“To abandon [it] out of the blue would be difficult,” he said.

It would also cost him more money as a business owner, Hargreaves said. He said he incurs a higher service fee when his customers pay with a credit or debit card instead of bank-to-bank transactions. The difference can be hundreds of dollars per transaction.

“Business today happens in the digital realm, and it’s important that the tools we use are able to talk to each other,” Hargreaves said. “When they stop talking to each other, problems can arise.”

Hargreaves isn’t alone in having an issue re-connecting a PNC bank account directly to third-party apps. Alyssa Bush of Lincoln, Neb. said bank transfers out of her Venmo account stopped working suddenly in mid-October. pnc zelle not working called PNC and they said they couldn’t really help me,” Bush said. “I contacted Venmo and they said it’s all on PNC.”

Venmo’s parent company PayPal declined to comment for this story.

PNC’s statement also said that the company does support Venmo transactions via bank account. However, customers who have lost access must manually re-link their accounts to Venmo if they wish to keep using it.

“Our changes were made to enhance security across PNC online banking and they were not specific to any individual users.”

Neither Hargreaves nor Bush received information about how to reconnect from PNC customer service. Bush was eventually able to reconnect her PNC account to Venmo, but she said it was advice from Venmo’s customer service, not PNC’s, that helped her reconnect.

Scores of customers have tweeted PNC’s customer service Twitter asking about third-party connectivity issues. Entire threads on Reddit are dedicated to trying to solve the problem.

Chad Thornburg of Perry, Mich. closed his PNC bank account last month because of third-party connectivity issues. He uses the platform Plaid to connect to online services including Mint and Privacy. Plaid is an intermediary that allows people to connect their bank account to other services.

Thornburg said he contacted PNC customer service three times; he said they eventually responding saying that they were working on a fix to re-link PNC accounts with Plaid, though no details or timeline were shared.

“I work in I.T. so I know that when issues are typically caused by technical reasons, the issue is usually resolved quickly,” Thornburg said. “This seemed like an intentional decision, not some bug or technical issue.”

Thornburg said he closed his PNC account and now banks with the online-only bank Axos.

John Pitts, Plaid’s policy lead, said the company became aware of issues with PNC at the end of the summer. He said Plaid is capable of working with PNC’s security enhancements, but that PNC has not restored the connection between the two.

“Our technology works with PNC’s security enhancements, it works with the security enhancements of banks all over the country,” Pitts said. “The priority for us is making sure that consumers have choices in the apps they get to use to improve their financial lives.”

Both PNC Bank and Plaid are members of the FinancialDataExchange, a financial information sharing group that sets standards for the financial technology industry. Pitts said one of the group’s founding principles is that security should empower consumer control and access, not block it. He said the situation with PNC and third party apps does not sound like a great consumer experience.

“It sounds like friction,” Pitts said. “It sounds like consumers being limited in their choices and having to do a lot of extra effort to get the services they want.”

Digital payments network

Zelle () is a United States–based digital payments network owned by Early Warning Services, LLC, a private financial services company owned by the banks Bank of America, BB&T, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo.[1][2][3] The Zelle service enables individuals to electronically transfer money from their bank account to another registered user's bank account (within the United States) using a mobile device or the website of a participating banking institution.[1][3]

The Zelle instant payment service was launched in June 2017.[1] Previously, the Zelle service was known as clearXchange, which offered payment services through member financial institutions and a website. Launched in April 2011, clearXchange was originally owned by Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo. After Capital One and US Bank joined as additional partners, clearXchange was sold to Early Warning Services in January 2016.[4] In December 2017, all clearXchange accounts for person-to-person payment services were rebranded as "Zelle", and clearXchange users began being required to recreate their profiles in Zelle to continue using the service.

History[edit]

  • In April 2011, the clearXchange service was launched. It was originally owned and operated by Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo.[5][6] The service offered person-to-person (P2P), business-to-consumer (B2C), and government-to-consumer (G2C) payments.[7]
  • For person-to-person payments, clearXchange enabled users to send money to other first arkansas bank and trust heber springs ar users having accounts at participating banks in the United States. Users accessed the network within the websites and apps of member financial institutions,[5] and through clearXchange's website. The network connected with existing bank accounts, so consumers would not need to fund a separate account to use the service.[6] This feature and the lack of fees for using the service were highlighted as advantages for competition with other person-to-person payment services such as PayPal, Popmoney, and Square.[5][6] The system associated each user bank account with an email address and mobile phone number, so only the recipient's email address or mobile number was needed to send money directly from a bank account to the bank account of another person who had signed up for the service.[8][9][10]
  • Over time, the number of financial institutions that were affiliated with clearXchange grew to include various other banks and credit unions. Capital One and US Bank firstbank nigeria careers added as additional owner-members.[9][10]
  • In June 2015, clearXchange announced the availability of a real-time payment system.[11][12] However, some transactions could take as much as five days or longer to be completed.[13]
  • In January 2016, clearXchange was sold to Early Warning Services.[14] Early Warning Services is owned by Bank of America, BB&T, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, US Bank, and Wells Fargo.[2]
  • In September 2017, Early Warning Services released the Zelle payment system and mobile app[15] and announced that all clearXchange "person-to-person" payment service accounts would be deactivated in December 2017. After that, clearXchange stopped supporting person-to-person payments but has continued to provide payments from companies and government entities to certain customers. The company encouraged the former users of clearXchange to sign up for the new Zelle service.[16] As in the former clearXchange service, payees are identified in the Zelle service by an association between the recipient's bank account and an email address or mobile phone number.[16] Money sent to a registered payee who has an account at a financial institution that is a member of the Zelle network is typically available to the recipient "within minutes".[17]
  • In March 2019, Early Warning Services's CEO, Paul Finch, stepped down to work with the Finch family Foundation, a Phoenix, Arizona, nonprofit organization that serves needy families and children. Finch cited his long tenure, the completion of the launch of the Zelle network, and the company's plans to start new projects as reasons for the timing of his departure.[18]
  • In May 2019, Early Warning Services appointed their new CEO, Albert Ko. Before his appointment, Mr. Ko was the chief transformation officer for Intuit. While an officer of Intuit, Albert Ko was the general manager for Mint, as well as an overseer of QuickBooks.[19]

The Zelle service[edit]

The Zelle service is intended for payments to those whom the payer already knows and trusts adequately, and the service disclaims any responsibility for goods and services sold through the system.[20][21]

Zelle users can send money to other registered Zelle users. (They can also attempt to send money to unregistered recipients, in which case the intended recipient will receive an invitation to sign up for the service in order to complete the transaction.) Users access the network within the websites and apps of Zelle-participating U.S. financial institutions[5] and how much money the average american has in savings the Zelle mobile app. To register with the Zelle mobile app, users must enroll a supported MasterCard or Visa-branded debit card issued in connection with a U.S. bank account.[22]

The network connects with existing bank accounts, so consumers do not need to fund a separate account to use the service.[6] Only the recipient's email address or mobile number is needed for a user to send money directly from their bank account to the recipient's bank account.[8]

An email address or mobile phone number may only be actively enrolled in Zelle to receive payments at one financial institution. To register at multiple banks, users need to provide different email addresses or mobile phone numbers for each.[23]

A Zelle user can transfer money to a recipient or submit a request for others to send a payment, or to split the cost of a payment.[24][25]

There are limits on the dollar amount and frequency of transactions allowed on Zelle that are imposed by the banking institution associated with the account being used.[20] For example, transfers from most Wells Fargo funding accounts are limited to $2,500 per day and $20,000 in a 30-day period, and lower limits may apply for new payees or when using the Zelle mobile app rather than the bank's self-operated services.[20][26] Transfers from a Chase checking account are limited to $2,000 per day and $16,000 per calendar month.[20][27]

Payments made using Zelle cannot be canceled (unless an attempt was made to send a payment to someone who has not enrolled in the service).[28]

The website for Zelle that was launched in June 2017 says that "Transactions between enrolled Zelle users typically occur in minutes. If your recipient is not yet enrolled with Zelle, it may take between 1 and 3 business days after they enroll."[15]

Competition with PayPal's Venmo service[edit]

Zelle's online payment competitors

The Zelle service's principal competitor is PayPal and its Venmo payment service.[1][29] Venmo is more popular, based on public awareness, opinion polling, and active engagement with users, but Zelle processes a much larger dollar volume of money transfers—reportedly US$75 billion in its first year, 2017.[1][3][21][25]

The two services work very similarly from the user's perspective – e.g., both services use email addresses and mobile phone numbers to identify recipients, but Venmo lacks the direct integration with banking institutions that Zelle has, and Zelle money transfers are typically processed more quickly.[25]

Starting in January 2018, Venmo began to also offer a more rapid transfer option than its typical 1–3 day transfer service, but Venmo charges a fee for the service, while Zelle-affiliated banks currently do not.[30][31]

The Zelle network itself does not charge users a fee for money transfers.[32] Banks are allowed to charge a fee for Zelle transfers involving their accounts, but they have generally not chosen to do so.[20][30]

Venmo requires its users to set up an account in its system that is separate from an ordinary banking account and is not insured by FDIC or NCUA, ups 2020 holiday schedule banking accounts are.[25] The Venmo account can be linked to a bank account so that necessary funds will be automatically withdrawn from there. In contrast, Zelle transfers money directly between bank accounts, so it requires no separate account or extra steps to obtain access to funds. Zelle is also accessible through banking institution websites and apps as well as through the separate Zelle mobile app.

It is not possible to cancel a payment to an existing Venmo account unless the recipient gives their explicit permission. Once you send a payment, the funds are available to the recipient right away.
